Places To Go, People to See
A new blog from the Buffalo born author of the novel, 'Traveling With An Eggplant', that deals with her work, book tour, and ridiculous midadventures, as well as descriptions of Clarence bars, restaurants, businesses, parks, etc so that people know more about her hometown and get a humorous look at what's featured in Clarence and what being there is really like so that they want to make an effort to check it out. People actually living in Buffalo have zero excuse for not going anyways but hopefully the blog will give them that extra push. For more info, there's always the official site: www.alyciaripley.com where you can read all about the lively, eccentric brunette and what she's currently up to. In addition to promoting "Eggplant," her new book 'Try Anything Once' should hit stores in late summer '07 followed by a novel called 'Winterphoenix' shortly thereafter. She is also an obsessive copyeditor, the co-editor of an anthology book of works by Buffalo born writers along with notorious Buffalo man about town essayist, Tom Waters as well as being a commentator for this just-born site. She has performed in many NYC stage productions and has an upcoming extended stay in Los Angeles to further her film work. Her nomadic life has helped her to appreciate what Buffalo and in particular, Clarence, NY has to offer, so get there already and see what all the fuss is about.

I absolutely love taking these questionaires ppl send me when i take breaks from writing my new book- "Alice in Absurdity". If I get some serious work done (at least three pages of new material) I reward myself with these things and I always end up either learning something new about me (ridiculous, but true) or getting a good laugh or at least a relaxed brain from it. No wonder ppl take these questionaires on MySpace when they're trying to get to sleep!
Who are you currently texting??
Lauren- she's a fast and furious texter. It's funny- my generation didn't grow up with texting or even cell phones so we appreciate it more than this Generation M that rose up with AOL, IM, cell phones, texting, Ipods, etc. I truly believe it's hurting us because that generation is becoming increasingly unable to make phone calls or look ppl in the eyes or have normal social skills because they're so tied to technology but to someone like me, living far away from family and loved ones, something like texting really makes my day- you can stay in the minds and hearts of ppl simply by writing 'I love you' or 'Thinking of you'
Are you comfortable with answering personal questions??
Very- I'm pretty open and especially so since my novel came out and since I've been acting- media ppl ask whatever they like and you have to be able to either answer, give a good sound byte, deflect it completely or deal with it somehow. I never mind- it's been all good experiences so far and you have to just understand that ppl are curious about other ppl, especially those who work in the media in any way.
Have you ever cried and didn't know why?
Yes- I get sad PMS every month!
When was the last time you were truly happy with your life?
Not sure- definitely not right now. I'm grateful for the health of my family and friends and the time I get to spend with them but in terms of my own life there's still way too much work and evolving to be done for me to be happy or satisfied with it- ask me in a year- I have a feeling things will be very different then!
What is your favorite color???
Pink, red, and any variation thereof
What do you do when you have a bad day?
Write, read, call my best friend, go biking, dance around, pace around and think how to make the next day better
What are your plans for this week??
Business calls, mailings, writing for the new book(s), a Hawaiian themed birthday party on Saturday
When is the last time you personally made someone else cry?
It would have to be a really long time ago- I can't even imagine it happening- I'm really an innocuous person in that way!
The last time you were kissed, did you have someone else on your mind??
Not a chance.

Do you believe ex's can really ever be "just friends"??
Absolutely- I'm friends with all but two of mine.
Last thing you said??
"Heather, you should try this Freeman's Juicy Mango Taffy Pore Cleanser, it really works." It completely sounded like an advertisement but it's completely true!
Would you be able to date someone who had a kid with someone else?
Not at this age, too much baggage. Maybe when I was older but yet I still think that although it's a perfectly fine choice, it's not for me.
When is the last time you were on a vacation??
New Years Eve down in DC but I'm going on one in a month- I'm going home to Buffalo for two weeks and I can't wait! This is the last time that I can go 5 months without seeing friends or loved ones or my hometown- it's simply too long. I think two months should be the maximum especially when living out in LA where it's easy to feel isolated.
Do you make your bed everyday?
ABSOLUTELY- it's the first thing I do because if it's not, I feel cluttered and scatterbrained and like I can't concentrate. In particular, it's probably because my office and bedroom are one and the same so if the bedroom part isn't in check, the work flow can't happen and I get all distracted.
Are you shy to tell someone why you have feelings for them??
Not at all- I believe in being tactful and using the right time but I like discussing and describing my feelings and emotions to ppl. Being shy doesn't get your life moving forward in great directions- nothing worthwhile, or at least 90 percent of the time, nothing worthwhile is going to just fall into your lap. You have to be proactive and expressive.
Do you miss anyone??
All friends who live somewhere other than here, and my family
Who messaged you last??
No one on IM but in terms of my phone, Lauren and Mike. The best thing is when I'm riding and get to the end of the bike path and take out my phone to text ppl whileI take a 15 minute break and someone already wrote me first!
Do you currently hate someone??
I don't really dislike ppl, I can find them annoying but it takes a lot for me to not like someone and the last time it happened was at my old job- some ppl were so jerky and fake and vacuous that I tried to not be around them and when they talked, my stomach actually felt topsy turvy.
Who is your best friend(s)???

Writing, biking, calling, mailing. Evaluating what I'm doing, getting scared, feeling better, same old thing.

Never did, never wanted to.
Do you cry easily??
Yes, but almost never in front of ppl, always alone.
Where is your phone???
Always close by me I'm sorry to admit because I didn't see me as that type of person but when you're expecting business calls or calls/texts from loved ones several states away, you tend to want to grab it quickly. :>
Do you tend to fall for people easily??
Absolutely but not when I'm dating someone I'm REALLY attracted to and love being with.
Did you get hugged/kissed by anyone today???
Nope, unless you count the dogs.
What person in your family are you the most like??
Mom- physical mannerisms and way of planning. Stepdad Joe- our humor, way of thinking about things. My grandmother before she passed- definitely our humor and our way of, although not swearing in our real life, 'parodying' the swearing of others in our jokes. Also, ppl who knew her say I remind them alot of her somehow.
Are you quick to start a fight???
Not at all. I'm assertive and good at articulating points but I don't like confrontation- I think it's silly to let it get to that point when you can clear things up with some simple talking instead.
What is your favorite subject in school right now?
Finally finished with school but I'm not necessarily happy about it- I loved classes when it was things I was interested in and the meeting of like-minded ppl. It's harder to find ppl who have the same interests and personality once you're out of school. Not impossible, but harder.
Do your parents really know YOU?
90 percent I'd say- we're very close. But I've evolving as I'm getting older and away once again and I'd like them to know that person too. I feel actually that they get to know me alot through my writing and acting which sounds cheesy but is actually true.
Do you always get along with your sibling(s)???
Don't have any- but I try to get along with everyone so I guess that counts toward the same thing.
What was the most fun thing you did today???
Wrote some good new material I'm proud of. That and rode my bike up and down the Pacific Coast Highway bike bath and stared at the ocean, listening to some good music which, in turn, inspired the good new materials I was able to write. Work and play for me go hand in hand and are all part of the same wheel of effort.
Where do you want to be?
On celluloid. Or else Ellicottville, NY with someone I love.
Are you tired??
No which is surprising because I didn't sleep well last night- I was too warm even with the sheets and blanket down. I also had a really intense urge to get up and start dancing to Joy Division and New Order songs (had seen '24 Hour Party People' an hour before for the 56,000 time)

Last time you failed a test??
I'm a nerd so I'm not sure I ever have (if I have it was in chemistry) but I do have to take the California drivers test pretty soon and that has some wacky rules on it about bicycling and pedestrians so its not a sure thing!
