Blog Entry 86 of 105 Places To Go, People to See
A new blog from the Buffalo born author of the novel, 'Traveling With An Eggplant', that deals with her work, book tour, and ridiculous midadventures, as well as descriptions of Clarence bars, restaurants, businesses, parks, etc so that people know more about her hometown and get a humorous look at what's featured in Clarence and what being there is really like so that they want to make an effort to check it out. People actually living in Buffalo have zero excuse for not going anyways but hopefully the blog will give them that extra push. For more info, there's always the official site: www.alyciaripley.com where you can read all about the lively, eccentric brunette and what she's currently up to. In addition to promoting "Eggplant," her new book 'Try Anything Once' should hit stores in late summer '07 followed by a novel called 'Winterphoenix' shortly thereafter. She is also an obsessive copyeditor, the co-editor of an anthology book of works by Buffalo born writers along with notorious Buffalo man about town essayist, Tom Waters as well as being a commentator for this just-born site. She has performed in many NYC stage productions and has an upcoming extended stay in Los Angeles to further her film work. Her nomadic life has helped her to appreciate what Buffalo and in particular, Clarence, NY has to offer, so get there already and see what all the fuss is about.

I am not interested in money. I just want to be wonderful. Well, sort of interested in money. But I really want to be fabulous and successful and glamorous and generous. I suppose to be generous I need some money because I've been giving my time for years now and it's not really cutting it. :> Yeah, money's important after all.

I'm obsessed with names- names of streets, of characters, of friends. I wish I could change my first name because I don't think mine suits me or sums me up or even sounds right and oddly enough had my mom not been going through some serious stress when I was born I think she would have chosen something else on her list. I was going to be Samantha, Rachel, Lauren (pronounced La-renne like Ralph Lauren). There's names I love for my future kids like Roxy but thats not necessarily me. I think if I was to rename me and to be fair and not pick ones I just think are cool- I think names that suit me are Elaine, Samantha, Lauren, Rebecca, Veronica, Alison. But they let me change my last name already so I guess I can't be greedy.I already got to become a little more towards who and what I wanted to be.

Everything's a movie to me. Every scene in my life has a soundtrack and everything to me, looks like a set. Dean Cundey, the cinematographer for Back to The Future, told me this story. That he had to light the Delorean for a scene in a cave and the director Bob Zemeckis thought there was too much light although he felt it looked good. "Dean, how are we going to justify this light? Where's the light coming from?" And Dean goes, "From the same place the music is coming from, Bob." That's totally me- I live in the place where the music and lights are just there and set up for me..:>

I love planning events and parties. If I couldn't work in film I'd simply be a writer and a party planner. I'm obsessed with details. I guess I'd have to stay on the west coast though because I don't know if people plan huge parties in Buffalo...:<

I love Charleston chews (after they've been in the freezer for a while) and could eat them until I burst.I did this at the movie theatre the other day with my friend James and the nouget is just so sweet that we couldn't believe we each ate a huge box but they're fabulous.

I love sleeping so much more than I used to.

I'm obsessed with Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 even though when I go in there there's little I'd actually buy. I can't quite figure out the motivation behind this obsession but I will say THIS: the Forever 21 here in Santa Monica on the 3rd St Promenade is 5 floors and huge and decorated in this gorgeous fashion..maybe I just like to be in its midst.

I'm constantly trying to improve my handwriting and make it sexier. When written out loud this sounds ludicrous because, what pray tell, does sexy handwriting look like?

I don't like confrontation but yet I'm great at it. Doesn't make much sense.

I love taking pictures and take at least one every day.

I save Anthropologie catalogs and make collages with them.

I'm learning recently that I only have a few really good, close friends and the rest of them are simply good acquaintances. If you won't make some extra effort for someone or extend yourself more than is simply convienent, then you only think of them as a good acquaintance. This is sad, but a fact that must be faced around this age because we're only getting busier from here on in and need to know the people we can count on to keep us in their lives and keep cultivating a relationship with.

Bad grammar makes me cringe.

So does yellow teeth- Crest White Strips are everywhere, people! Use them!!!

I hate movie remakes but love 're-imaginings' especially if they're really good, like the "Tin Man" miniseries on Sci-Fi.

I'm in love with Halloween but can't stand what a hit or miss time it is. There's either something great happening that night or nothing at all and if there's not then your great costume idea is wasted!

When people don't move their carts out of the way for you at the store and totally see you standing there with your heavy basket it makes me want to smack them. Obviously this happened today if its that much on my mind. Keep scrolling down, there's more......
About Me:

I love texting
I'm addicted. It's sad- I'm too old for it!! i'm sure i'll get over it soon- its just that i got texting capabilities late- meaning this year- and so its still a novelty to me unfortunately.

I try to have fun no matter where i am. I'm usually always smiling which is dorky, I admit
I get really distracted with emails and writing essays for work- I need to finish up my new book- there's already pre-orders for it!!

I am a huge klutz but don't like to admit it and often pass my falling off as intended

I'm really friendly...
I'd do anything for anyone if they needed me to but I've been learning not to trust people so much which is sort of sad- if I had my way it would be 1955 still

I love doing things on the spur of the moment in terms of fun things but I'm more of a planner when it comes to work and goals.
Nothing makes my day or makes me feel as great as when I'm writing- someone said once that besides writing, the rest of their day is completely posthumous and I have to agree.
I hate procrastination but yet I'm doing it right now. Busted.
