Will Clarence Youth Street Hockey Prevail?

What is the first sound and sign spring is coming? In Clarence it's the ring of the street hockey puck, which can be heard before the snow is entirely gone. Eager to shed the few X-Box pounds they've gained over winter, the nets sticks and pucks are back in action. For some players it is the end of ice hockey for others street hockey IS their only version of THE game. They are many. While Clarence would never dream of advocating the children play tennis, baseball, or soccer in the streets, little is done to provide areas for street hockey.

Last year, the old Youth Center opened it's paved outdoor area for a few weeks for street hockey. It was wonderful! There was such a turn out the players had to play in shifts, lingering to the last available moment to play. Hopefully, Clarence will repeating this venture. It was a fine exchange where players picked up skill and safety tips as well as savoring every minute they played street hockey. Surely a Town such as Clarence, that advocates physical fitness, could find a spot in each of their parklets for these young athletes. We need to look to the interests of a large portion of our town's young citizens.
