Living in Amherst: One Woman's Guide
Stop by often for updates on fun (hopefully inexpensive!) activities in the Amherst area. In addition to offering ideas for thigns to do, I will review events that I have attended myself. As I am a freelance writer at home with my three children, I will try to include as many family-friendly activities as I can.

Something exciting is coming to our town in the form of a college basketball game! I am sure that there are people out there who do not find sporting events at any level fun, but there is something amazing about watching men and women play (mostly) for the love of a sport rather than money. It is sad when some of these same people become adults who then act like children with greedy agents representing them. But, I am getting away from my point...
On December 9, the University at Buffalo Bulls will host the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in a basketball game that is sure to be remembered, if not by the whole city and school, by one great fan...me! It shows how far the UB program has come to be hosting a team who is playing as well at Pitt. Even better, UB should be competitive against them!
To give you some background, I am a member of the Board of Directors of the University at Buffalo Blue and White Club. We raise money for the UB athletic department. I have been a member of the organization pretty much since coming back to the area after college. I love college athletics and have always been proud of my association with UB.
Another big reason that this game is so exciting to me is that I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. If you are thinking that this could be a problem for me in terms of loyalties, then you are absolutely right! Anyone who has ever been a fan of a college team knows that you never stray from your alma-mater! In this case though, I certainly have very good reason to root for the opposing team! I am hoping to have an answer to this problem

Saturday afternoon!
Anybody who has not yet experienced a UB basketball game (or any UB sporting event) should really try to do it soon - the tickets are reasonably priced and the events are great for the whole family. My husband and I almost always take our three children with us and never regret it. (I am saying this from the standpoint of family togetherness...individual behavior is not guaranteed by the university!)
So, I hope to see you all at the game! (Just don't act surprised when I get excited about every single basket scored.)

Go Bulls! Amy and I went to the Canisius-Syracuse game on Nov. 25 at HSBC Arena and it was a lot of fun - Amy even paid attention (for most of it)! It would be great if college basketball made a big resurgence around here.
