Don't Turn the Lights Out for "The Dark Knight"
Contributed by: Deanna Russo YourHub Manager   on 7/22/2008

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon, and my husband and I were a little surprised by the crowded parking lot at the Regal Quaker Cinema. After all, it's Buffalo, how many people go to the movies in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday? Well, it was raining :)

We had a feeling that it had to do with Heath Ledger's new movie "The Dark Knight". After all, that's why we were there.

We found a couple seats in the crowded theatre and enjoyed a few enticing previews. (I find the upcoming "Bolt" amusing - especially the hamster in the ball, and there's a short preview of the new "Terminator" movie too).

OK, so what did I think about "The Dark Knight"? It was one of the best Batman movies that I've seen. From the opening bank robbery scene and throughout the movie, it was full of thrills, a great plotline, and suspense.

Heath Ledger was excellent as the Joker. It is very sad that this actor is gone from the earth so prematurely because he was extremely talented, and plays this dark role so perfectly. I have seen a few Heath Ledger movies. To tell you the truth, I wasn't too impressed by " Brokeback Mountain". I did like him in " The Patriot" and "A Knight's Tale", but in this movie, Ledger really shows audiences how he can portray such a devious character.

Christian Bale plays a "very good" Batman, Maggie Gylenhaal is beautiful as the leading lady, and Michael Caine and Aaron Eckart are very good in it as well, but I really thought Ledger stole the movie. If it wasn't for his portrayal of the Joker, I don't think the movie would have lived up to all the hype.

Will he get an Oscar nomination for his role in the movie?

I don't want to give away anything to any of you who haven't yet seen the movie, but let's just say the storyline takes the audience on a few different twists and turns.

It's a dark film, and I expected that, but worth the price of admission.

Go see "The Dark Knight" and post your comments about the movie here.

Until next time...

Deanna
